Rita Ora (How we do)

I really like the style of this video, it's fun and would appeal to young people. I probably wouldn't use the song for my video but the 'party' theme with lots of people involved does make this video interesting and enjoable to watch.

Genre Characteristics: Young female artist, popular, party scene, everyone seems to be happy. This video had a mainstream/pop label.

Relationship between lyrics and visuals?
The lyrics ('party and bull***t') match the carefree youthful party scene being displayed.

Relationship between music and visuals?
The music is upbeat with a catchy tune and the movement of the artist/dancers matches the musics pop
 genre.

Are there close-ups of the Artist and star image motifs?
There are close-ups of the main Artist (rita ora) as well as some of the dancers moves being amplified with a close-up. The camera cuts between Rita with 'friends' during the party scene and then a shot of her on her own in numerous outfits away from the party. Towards the beginning of the video there is a girl wearing a jacket with the title of the song on the back. Almost introducing the video.

What is the video category?
This video falls into the category of illustration, it has a basic story and elements of performance. With no real storyline it can't be illustration and it's not really that anstract because what's going on in the video is clearly relevant to the music/song. The chorus of the song is amplified by the dancers and people partying.

Illustration video - Young Guns (Bones)

Either a straightforeward performance video or a simple narrative video (or a mixture of both) that illustrates the meaning of the lyrics and visualises the music in a straightforward way. It could be called a music video 'denotation'.
I like the simplicity of this video and the movement matches the music well. The black and white effect seems to be a common element of these simplistic 'rock' videos.

Disjuncture/ Abstract video - SBTRKT

Video's are completely abstract and have no obvious link to music, lyrics, song title or artist. In this sense they are a point of 'disjuncture' from the song.
Even though this videeo is abstact it still has narrative elements and tells a story which is interesting for the viewers.
